My Retro

I love how vintage and retro is making a come back! With shows like Dawn O'Porter's this old thing showing you all how to shop vintage and how to mix old with the new there are no excuses! If you are a tad nervous to go full on vintage have no fear. Below I am going to share with you some of my affordable vintage inspired favorites from the high street.

Topshop Paisley dress: £46
The 1960's was all about bold prints and vibrant colors. The skirts were getting much shorter and it was the era for experimenting! This cute paisley dress by topshop is a perfect nod to the 60's with wearable colors and patterns.
New Look Houndstooth Bag: £12.99
Houndstooth was first introduced in 1933 appearing in men's spring suit collections. It can now be seen everywhere on the high street!  This gorgeous little bag has a really classic retro feel to it with its monochrome print and gold clasp detail.

Peacocks Mint Green Bird Tea Dress: £16.00
This adorable tea dress by peacocks boasts a classic retro cut. Not only is this dress cute but it is super flattering with it's pulled in waist tie. The skirt skims the hips creating the much sought after hourglass figure.

I hope you have fun hunting down vintage inspired goodies on the high street! You may even love it so much you're inspired to go for the real vintage deal! If so, you can visit Number 26 in Hanley Stoke on Trent which boasts a floor of vintage goodness as well as an adorable gift shop 26a.

The Bombshell's Guide to: Rainy Weather

When you say the names Marilyn Monroe, Brigitte Bardot and Sophia Loren what comes to mind? Incredibly elegant women with an  unforgettable charm and sex appeal. All these women have one thing in common, they are unmistakably all bombshells of their time. They have va va voom, style and a touch of quirkiness that everyone seems to love. So what would these women do in our rainy English weather? Would they opt for wellies and a raincoat? Lauren Stover has been researching bombshells for years and lets us in on their secrets!

When faced with the wind and rain a bombshell will throw on a trench coat and their most resilient pair of shoes. They wood never opt for wellies unless they absolutely had to. They enjoy getting caught in the rain and do not mind at all if their dress happens to cling to their body and turn slightly see through. The bombshell also hates getting her face wet in case her makeup is ruined. Although, she enjoys the dramatic effect of mascara running down her face when she has been upset. A bombshell will often buy pretty large umbrellas with polka dots or frills. However, she often leaves them in taxis or at a cafe. If no umbrella is present, she will use her bag or a newspaper to protect herself. Men have been known to walk streets out of their way to hold an umbrella over the bombshell until she arrives safely at her destination.

I hope this post has brought a little rainy day inspiration your way!

Items Every Girl Should Have in Her Handbag

Every girl carries one and every girl has that hidden curiosity... what's in the bag? I know I often wonder what girls carry around in their bags. It can tell you a lot about a person and reveal things you may have not known. Friends have often looked through photos in my wallet from my sisters wedding or a few pictures of my baby nephews. You may find yourself asking, what does a retro loving girl carry in her handbag? Well, here are my handbag essentials.

Face Powder:
My weapon of choice has to be Hello Flawless by benefit. It doesn't sit in the creases of your face and always leaves your skin looking perfect! It comes with a handy mirror, sponge and brush for on-the-go touch ups.

Black Eyeliner:
I love Magic Ink by benefit because it lasts all day and gives me that perfect jet black retro flick every time. The brush is nice and thin for easy application. I like to draw a simple line on the lid for a day look then switch it up with a flick for the evening.

A Pocket Mirror:
How many times have you found yourself without a mirror? Too many times! I love this cute little button mirror by Cath Kidston. Everything Cath does is so cute, I can never get enough of her floral prints!

Red Lipstick:
Dita Von Teese once stated  "I like to remind people that the day you go out looking like a full disaster is the day you’re gonna run into your ex-boyfriend or your ex-husband’s new wife or something crazy like that.” For me though, wearing lipstick everyday red or not is a homage to my late grandmother Marion. She was a lady who was glamorous everyday. She was always elegant and always reminded me, like Dita, "You never know who you'll run into...You may run into your future husband who has a yacht." My lipstick of choice is Dita Von Teese for Art Deco.

A Cute Purse:
My boyfriend got me this adorable purse and I am in love with it. It's perfect with navy lace and cream edging. I also have a thing for bows, it's like I'm opening a present. You can get the same one from New Look.

Lip Balm:
I am obsessed with these EOS lip balms my sister got me for Christmas! They're quirky not to mention they smell and taste amazing!

Nail Polish:
Don't you hate it when your nail chips and you don't have your nail polish on you to hide it? I end up staring at my chipped nail in disappointment until I can get home and sort it. My favorite nail varnish at the moment is Barry M Gelly nails in Lychee.

My grandmother always used perfume even if she was just going to the corner shop. "An outfit is never complete without perfume." She use to say. My favorite perfume is pure poison by Dior. It smells amazing!

I often have to travel on the bus to work and I cannot be without my iPod! Music really effects my mood and I love taking the time to listen to it on my way to somewhere.

What's in your handbag? I'd love to know!

We are incredibly excited to announce the launch of our brand new vintage clothing venture NINA LEA vintage. Over the years we have been working on our brand starting with bugs boutique and laced with velvet.  This has given us time to think about what vintage really means to us. Vintage to us simply means elegant and over the top chic style. The women of eras gone by always looked well put together and delightfully feminine. We want to bring this back and bring it to you!

So keep calm and watch this space,
